Mona Lisa Speaks… and It’s Hilarious
For more than 500 years, she’s just stared back at us in silence. People line up in Paris, jostle for a quick selfie, and walk away wondering what’s behind that half-smile.
And then, suddenly, she opened her mouth.
No, the Louvre hasn’t discovered a lost Leonardo invention. This is AI at work. In this episode of AI for Everyone, I show how modern tools can take a still image — like the Mona Lisa — and bring it to life with a voice. And not just any voice, but one with tone, inflection, even a little attitude.
It’s equal parts fascinating, funny, and maybe a little unsettling. Because if AI can animate a centuries-old portrait, what else can it give a voice to?
Well, in the episode, we didn’t stop with Da Vinci’s masterpiece. We gave a cheeseburger a voice, too. (Because why not? If you could ask your lunch how it feels about being eaten, wouldn’t you be curious?)
Here’s what I love about demos like this:
- They strip away the intimidation factor. AI doesn’t have to be about coding or algorithms — it can be playful.
- They spark imagination. If you can make a cheeseburger talk, you start to see other possibilities. Family photos, old postcards, a favorite pet picture — suddenly they all feel alive.
- And they invite laughter, which is maybe the best way to learn.
Some people hear about these tools and worry it’s “too much” — that technology is racing ahead of us. But when you put Mona Lisa on the mic, you realize it’s not about replacing humans. It’s about experimenting, discovering, and yes, sometimes just having a good laugh.
